Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
You can start without one and the whole loop works. Your wiki then lives only in that one browser, though: clearing site data or moving to another device loses it. Signing in takes a few seconds, keeps an automatic backup, and syncs your wiki across the devices you use.
Which assistants can I connect?
ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code and Codex. Setting one up takes about a minute, and you only do it once per assistant. The setup guide on the blog covers each of them step by step.

Which model should I use?
A stronger one, especially for anything that touches more than one page. The fast, lightweight modes answer in a single pass, so work that takes several steps, like reorganising a whole chapter, tends to come back half finished. Choose your assistant's reasoning model rather than its quickest one. Claude's Cowork and ChatGPT's Work mode are both built for jobs that run over several steps.
Do I have to connect an assistant?
No. You can also bring a conversation into Eigma by hand from the Ingest screen. Connecting one is the quicker path, not the only one.
Can a connected assistant change my wiki on its own?
No. Everything it sends waits in Eigma's inbox, shown next to the page as it stands now, and you accept or reject each change yourself. You can withdraw an assistant's access at any time in Settings, under Connected assistants.
Where is my data stored?
On your device, in your browser's storage, and you can keep as much there as you like. Signing in adds an automatic cloud backup: that copy lives with Supabase on servers in Paris, so it stays in the EU and under European data protection law, and the privacy page sets out exactly what is kept and how to delete it. You can export a full backup file whenever you want. Clearing your browser's site data deletes the local copy, so keep a backup if your wiki matters to you.
Can I edit the pages myself?
Yes. Double-click any paragraph to edit it where it sits, reorder and rewrite whole sections, change the questions attached to a page, highlight passages and leave notes on them. Lock a page and nothing will touch its text, including anything an assistant sends.
What makes a page turn gold?
Recall does. Reading a page takes it to silver; answering its quizzes from memory takes it to gold. Color is an honest signal of how well you know something, not of how often you opened it.
What does Eigma cost?
Nothing today. Everything described on this site is in the free plan, and there is nothing to buy yet. Paid plans will come later. Whatever you have already put in stays yours either way, and you can export all of it at any time.
Can I get my knowledge back out?
Yes, whenever you like. Export the whole wiki as a file you can import again later, or as a PDF to read and print. Your pages are Markdown underneath.
Can I share what I have learned?
Yes. You can publish a volume from your wiki to the community, where anyone can read it, and bring volumes other people have published into your own Eigma in one step.
Can I use Eigma on my phone?
Yes. my.eigma.app works in mobile browsers with a layout made for small screens. Native apps for Windows, macOS, Android and iOS are on the way.
What languages does Eigma speak?
The interface comes in English, Chinese and German, and your own knowledge can be in any language you like. A page can also carry a version in another language that you switch to and back.
